TODD GLORIA WINS PIVOTAL ENDORSEMENT FROM SAN DIEGO DEMOCRATIC PARTY
County Democratic Party Decisively Backs Todd Gloria’s Bid to be San Diego’s Next Mayor
SAN DIEGO, CA – California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) is officially the San Diego County Democratic Party’s endorsed candidate to be the next Mayor of the City of San Diego. Last night, Assemblymember Gloria decisively secured the endorsement earning 71 percent of votes cast by the Party’s Central Committee. This pivotal endorsement propels Gloria’s campaign forward heading into the March 3, 2020 primary election.
“This all-important endorsement means the absolute world to me, and it signals that our party believes in our campaign’s message of fighting for working people and truly building a city that works for all of us,” said Assemblymember Gloria. “We have an opportunity to bring real change to this city and finally make real progress on the issues that have plagued us for so long. I’m eager to continue bringing this message to San Diegans and bringing solutions to the table as the Democratic Party’s choice for Mayor.”
The San Diego County Democratic Party’s Central Committee is the governing body of the San Diego County Democratic Party. It is made up of local Democrats elected by voters in each Assembly District as well as partisan-level Democratic elected officials and delegates.
The San Diego County Democratic Party joins a broad and diverse field of support for Gloria’s campaign for Mayor.
To date, Assemblymember Gloria has been endorsed by nearly 100 elected officials in California including Governor Gavin Newsom, former Governor Jerry Brown, Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez, Assemblymember Dr. Shirley Weber, San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott, San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, and Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas (partial list). In addition, Assemblymember Gloria’s campaign has been endorsed by a coalition of organizations representing San Diego working families and city workers – including: San Diego City Firefighters Local 145, the San Diego Municipal Employees Association, Laborers International Union Local 89, and the American Federation of Teachers Local 1931.
Assemblymember Gloria announced his campaign for Mayor in January. If elected, Assemblymember Gloria would be the City of San Diego’s first LGBT person and the first person of color elected Mayor.
