SENATOR KAMALA HARRIS: I’M ENDORSING TODD GLORIA FOR MAYOR OF SAN DIEGO
Todd Gloria Earns Major Endorsement from U.S. Senator and Presidential Candidate, Kamala Harris, in Race for San Diego Mayor
SAN DIEGO, CA – Ahead of tonight’s fifth Democratic debate and on the heels of California’s Democratic Party Convention in Long Beach this past weekend, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego), a Democratic candidate for Mayor of San Diego in 2020, has landed the high-profile endorsement of United States Senator from California and candidate for President of the United States, Kamala Harris.
“Now more than ever, we need leaders in our country who will bring people together rather than divide us. That’s why there is no doubt in my mind that Todd Gloria is the clear choice to be the next Mayor of San Diego,” said Senator Kamala Harris. “Todd is a proven leader who we have seen time and time again embrace common sense and find common ground to deliver results. I know Todd will be a fearless and outspoken leader for the people and I am so proud to endorse him.”
Senator Harris’ endorsement of Assemblymember Gloria’s campaign for Mayor comes a few weeks removed from Gloria earning the rare early endorsement from U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA).
Senator Harris adds to an impactful list of federal, state, and local elected officials supporting Todd Gloria to be the next Mayor of San Diego including California Governor Gavin Newsom, former California Governor Jerry Brown, Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins, Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, and San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott.
“I am incredibly honored to have Senator Kamala Harris’ endorsement. Senator Harris represents the best of who we are as Californians and has never wavered in fighting for the people,” said Assemblymember Gloria. ”This election is truly an inflection point for San Diego. I’m running for Mayor to change the status quo at City Hall and start getting back to work addressing the needs of working and middle class San Diegans.”
If elected, Assemblymember Gloria would be the City of San Diego’s first person-of-color and the first LGBT person ever elected Mayor. He is currently serving his second term in the California State Legislature and is the Assembly’s Majority Whip.
The primary election will take place on March 3, 2020 with the general election to follow on November 3, 2020.
