REP. SCOTT PETERS: I’M SUPPORTING TODD GLORIA FOR MAYOR OF SAN DIEGO

Congressman Scott Peters Throws Support Behind Todd Gloria for San Diego Mayor

SAN DIEGO, CA – In perhaps one of the most high-profile endorsements to date in the race for San Diego Mayor, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) announced today the endorsement of U.S. Congressman Scott Peters (CA-52). Peters, who was once a rumored leading candidate in the Mayor’s race, throws his support behind Gloria citing his experience, leadership, and vision for the city.

I’m endorsing Todd Gloria because San Diego needs a Mayor who can look forward with both optimism and pragmatism, one who is willing to seek consensus, and do the right thing even when it’s the tough thing,” said Congressman Scott Peters. “From the housing crisis to climate action, he puts forward real solutions and is willing to push the change needed to move San Diego forward. I look forward to working with Todd as our next Mayor.”

Congressman Peters’ endorsement adds to a broad coalition of federal, state, and local elected officials who believe Assemblymember Gloria is the right choice to be San Diego’s next Mayor. These include: California Governor Gavin Newsom, former California Governor Jerry Brown, Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, Congresswoman Susan Davis, San Diego City Attorney Mara Elliott, Chula Vista Mayor Mary Salas, and Imperial Beach Mayor Serge Dedina (partial list). A full list of endorsements is available at www.toddgloria.com.

Congressman Peters is a tremendous representative for San Diego. I am truly honored to have his support,” said Assemblymember Todd Gloria. “Our campaign is focused on moving San Diego forward by embracing our identity as a big American city. Doing this requires strong leaders at all levels of government, which is what we have in Congressman Peters. I look forward to working with him as Mayor.”

Just yesterday, Assemblymember Gloria announced the pivotal endorsement of the San Diego Police Officers Association who join the San Diego City Firefighters Local 145 – an important signal of public safety groups and first responders uniting behind Gloria’s campaign.

The primary election will be held on March 3, 2020 and the general election will be held on November 3, 2020. If elected, Assemblymember Gloria would be the City of San Diego’s first LGBT person and the first person of color elected Mayor.
