LT. GOVERNOR ELENI KOUNALAKIS BACKS TODD GLORIA FOR SAN DIEGO MAYOR
First Woman Lieutenant Governor of California: “We Need Leaders Like Todd Gloria.”
SAN DIEGO, CA – Continuing to expand his broad coalition of support in his campaign for San Diego Mayor, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) announced today that his campaign has earned the impactful endorsement of California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis — the first woman elected Lieutenant Governor in the State’s history.
“As California’s Lieutenant Governor and lead representative on international affairs and trade, I know we need leaders like Todd Gloria,” said Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis. “Whether it’s addressing cross-border pollution or building our economic relations with Mexico, Todd has been on the front lines serving as a strong voice for the people of San Diego. San Diego needs a Mayor who will roll up their sleeves and get things done, and that’s why I’m thrilled to support Todd Gloria.”
Lt. Governor Kounalakis adds to an already impressive coalition of more than 100 elected leaders supporting Assemblymember Gloria’s campaign for Mayor including California Governor Gavin Newsom, U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, and Senate President pro Tempore Toni Atkins (partial list). “I am honored to have the support of Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis,” said Assemblymember Gloria. “She has been a consistent champion for women’s rights, quality public education, cross-border relations, and climate change. These are all issues that concern San Diego and that I intend to be an active voice on as Mayor.”
Assemblymember Gloria is the Democratic-endorsed candidate for Mayor. If elected, he will be the City of San Diego’s first LGBT person and the first person of color ever elected Mayor.
