SAN DIEGO, CA – In what is considered a significant and high-profile show of support, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) announced today the influential endorsement of former California Governor Jerry Brown. Brown, who served as California’s Governor from 1975-1983 and then again from 2011-2019, praised Assemblymember Gloria for his experience and leadership in San Diego.

As a former Governor and mayor of a big city, I know how important it is to have experienced leaders who aren’t afraid to do the right thing,” said former Governor Jerry Brown. “Todd Gloria will be that kind of leader for San Diego.”

Former Governor Brown also previously served as the Mayor of Oakland from 1999-2007. He is widely recognized for bringing back California’s economy following the Great Recession. It is a tremendous honor to have the support of former Governor Jerry Brown,” said Assemblymember Todd Gloria. “During his tenure, Governor Brown demonstrated bold, progressive leadership and left the state on strong economic footing. He proved to be an effective, pragmatic leader for California, and that’s what I will be as Mayor of San Diego.”

Former Governor Jerry Brown joins a rapidly growing roster of support from community members, elected officials, and organizations including numerous statewide leaders such as California State Treasurer Fiona Ma, California State Insurance Commissioner Ricardo Lara, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, California State Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins, and California State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.

In addition, Assemblymember Gloria has secured the endorsement of all 60 members of his Democratic colleagues in the State Assembly – including those of local lAssemblymembers Lorena Gonzalez, Dr. Shirley Weber, Brian Maienschein, and Tasha Boerner Horvath.
