COUNCILMEMBER DR. JENNIFER CAMPBELL ENDORSES TODD GLORIA FOR MAYOR
Gloria Earns Support from Third Member of San Diego City Council
SAN DIEGO, CA – In a significant development in the race for San Diego Mayor, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego) announced today that San Diego City Councilmember Dr. Jennifer Campbell has endorsed his campaign. This is the third member of the San Diego City Council and fourth city official to endorse Gloria’s mayoral bid joining Council President Georgette Gómez, Councilmember Chris Ward, and City Attorney Mara Elliott.
“San Diego needs a strong, proven leader and that is why I am proud to endorse Todd Gloria for Mayor. He has a proven track record of experience at all levels of government,” said Councilmember Jennifer Campbell. “Todd has done the job – he has led our city through crisis once before and I trust him to do it again.”
Councilmember Campbell represents the second district which includes the beach and bay neighborhoods of Bay Park, Clairemont, Linda Vista, Midway, Mission Beach, Mission Bay, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach, and Point Loma. She was elected to the City Council in November 2018, unseating then-Councilmember Lorie Zapf with 56% of the vote.
“Councilmember Campbell is a tremendous representative for our beach and bay communities and brings a much-needed perspective to the City Council as a physician,” said Assemblymember Todd Gloria. “I’m honored to have her support and look forward to working with her to rebuild our city and ensure every San Diegan thrives – not only in our recovery from COVID-19, but beyond.”
Todd is a former San Diego City Councilmember, City Council President, and Interim Mayor. He serves as the California State Assemblymember for the 78th District and is the Majority Whip of the State Assembly. If elected San Diego’s Mayor, Todd will be the first person-of-color and the first LGBT person elected Mayor in city history.
