CIVIL RIGHTS ICON DOLORES HUERTA ENDORSES TODD GLORIA FOR SAN DIEGO MAYOR
18 Days from Election Day, Gloria Secures Powerful Endorsement from Civil Rights Leader Dolores Huerta
SAN DIEGO, CA – In a boost of momentum just 18 days from Election Day, California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego), candidate for San Diego Mayor, announced today that he has earned the highly-coveted endorsement of civil and labor rights icon Dolores Huerta. Huerta, the co-founder of United Farm Workers, urged San Diegans to support Gloria as the city’s next Mayor because of his unrelenting support for working families.
“In this most important election of our lifetimes, San Diego needs a leader who will fight for working families, not against them. That’s why I am endorsing Todd Gloria to be San Diego’s next Mayor,” said Dolores Huerta. “From increasing the minimum wage to standing up for communities like Barrio Logan against special interests, Todd has proven that he is a fighter for the people. He has the lived experience, character, vision, and values to be a Mayor for all of us.”
Dolores Huerta is a renown American labor leader and civil rights activist. She co-founded the United Farm Workers union with Cesar Chavez and has spent her life fighting for workers and disenfranchised communities. She remains active today in the fight for workers’ and civil rights particularly for the working poor, women, and children.
“I am incredibly honored to have the support of labor and civil rights icon, Dolores Huerta,” said Assemblymember Todd Gloria. “From day one, our campaign has been about making sure working people and the communities who have long been ignored at City Hall have a champion in the Mayor’s office. That’s why I’m running, and that’s the Mayor I will be.”
Todd Gloria, the son of a maid and a gardener, is a former San Diego City Councilmember, City Council President, and Interim Mayor. He serves as the California State Assemblymember for the 78th District and is the Majority Whip of the State Assembly. If elected San Diego’s Mayor, Todd will be the first person-of-color and the first LGBT person elected Mayor in city history.
