AFSCME LOCAL 3299: WE SUPPORT TODD GLORIA FOR SAN DIEGO MAYOR
Todd Gloria Earns Endorsement from University of California’s Largest Employee Union
SAN DIEGO, CA – California State Assemblymember Todd Gloria (D-San Diego), a Democratic candidate for Mayor of the City of San Diego in 2020, announced today that he has received the endorsement of American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Local 3299, representing more than 24,000 employees at University of California campuses across the State — including employees at San Diego area medical centers, clinics and research laboratories.
“The working men and women of AFSCME Local 3299 are proud to endorse Todd Gloria to be the next Mayor of the City of San Diego,” said Kathryn Lybarger, president of AFSCME Local 3299. “Time and time again, Todd has consistently stood with working families. We know we can count on him to be a staunch ally for workers, and we are excited to help him be successful in his campaign.”
The endorsement of AFSCME Local 3299 marks the fourth labor union endorsement Assemblymember Gloria has received in his campaign to be San Diego’s next Mayor.
“It means a great deal to have the support of AFSCME Local 3299, especially during a time when they are fighting for better conditions in the workplace,” said Assemblymember Gloria. “As the son of a maid and a gardener, I grew up in a working-class family. I want to bring that lived experience to the Mayor’s Office to ensure working and middle-class San Diegans have a Mayor who gets it and will stand up for them.”
The primary election will be held on March 3, 2020.
If elected, Assemblymember Gloria would be the City of San Diego’s first LGBT person and the first person of color elected Mayor.
